Songs I’m Currently Obsessed With Part 3

What songs am I obsessed with? Take a gander! (Gander? Really. I just said gander. What the hell. I might be judging myself right now.)

“Someone You Loved” by Lewis Capaldi

This song. . . .oh this song. It makes me tear up every. single. time. Every time. It’s a beautiful song. Then watching the video. . . . dear lord, it’s amazing. Tragic, but beautiful. Truly.

The video details a man (played by Peter Capaldi and yes, they are related, cousins I think) whose wife is dying. Then it shows another family with a mom who is sick and needs a new heart. At some point, the wife dies and the mom gets her heart. It’s a really sweet video.

My Favorite Lyrics:

“And I tend to close my eyes when it hurts sometimes
I fall into your arms
I’ll be safe in your sound ’til I come back around”

“Saturday Nights” by Khalid ft. Kane Brown

First, I am a bit obsessed with Khalid. I love all his songs. There’s something about his voice that’s just. . . I can’t describe it. I hear his voice and I feel soothed and calmed, even if the song is sad.

This song is one of those rare ones where I actually like this remix better than the original song. Khalid and Kane Brown sing about a girl who has family problems. He tells her that he understands her and he loves her and he gets her. It’s a sweet song and has a great beat. It makes me wanna slow dance.

My Favorite Lyrics:

“I guess there’s certain dreams that you gotta keep
‘Cause they’ll only know what you let ’em see
And all the things that I know
That your parents don’t
They don’t care like I do
Nowhere like I do”

“Dancing with a Stranger” by Sam Smith ft. Normani

This song is somehow. . . . .sexy? Maybe it’s his voice. Maybe it’s her voice. Maybe it’s the video. Maybe it’s all three. But somehow, this song, which really is a bit sad, is kind of sexy.

Sam and Normani are talking about an old love and then going out to try and forget that love. And how she didn’t want to go out but now she is. And all she’s thinking about is him. And all she’s thinking about is him.

My Favorite Lyrics:

“I wasn’t even goin’ out tonight
But, boy, I need to get you off of my mind
I know exactly what I have to do
I don’t wanna be alone tonight, alone tonight, alone tonight”

“I’ve Been Waiting” by Lil Peep & ILoveMakonnen feat. Fall Out Boy

So I heard this song on the radio and since then, I have been OBSESSED. Seriously, I’ve listened to this song on repeat at least 5 times everyday since I heard it like 4 days ago. It’s got an incredible beat to it. I just want to get up and dance every time I hear it and like wave my arms in the air, which is funny because it’s about a couple that has fallen apart.

Also, the video for this song is beautiful. My friend Caroline had to start the entire song over again to listen to the lyrics because she was so focused on the video.

My Favorite Lyrics

“I’ve been dreamin’ (uh)
Of your uniform
Your uniform of non-conformity
The tears, the tears
Tears aren’t strong enough
The years aren’t long enough, no”

“ME!” by Taylor Swift ft. Brendon Urie from Panic! At the Disco

Around two weeks ago Taylor Swift revamped her Instagram. Suddenly it was a pastel and clouds and all cutesy stuff. There were so many articles trying to interpret what the change on her social media and her style change meant. Maybe a return to innocence? Maybe she’s moving on? Maybe she’s being hopeful? Who knows! The world was going crazy trying to figure out what was going on. Then she posted a 4.26 on her Instagram and on all her songs on Spotify. Turns out she’s been working on this new secret song

I love the beginning of this video where you see the cute pastel pink snake and then boom, it changes into a bunch of videos. This song reminds me of almost the Spice Girls. That sort of boppy cutesy girl group stuff. I kind of like it. Also, it has Brendon Urie in it and he is life. End of discussion.

My Favorite Lyrics:

“I know that I’m a handful baby, uh
I know I never think before I jump
And you’re the kind of guy the ladies want
And there’s a lot of cool chicks out there
I know that I went psycho on the phone
I never leave well enough alone
And trouble’s gonna follow where I go
And there’s a lot of cool chicks out there”

And that’s it for these week’s obsessions!

Songs I’m Currently Obsessed With Part 2

The other day while we were cleaning, we were listening to Vevo on the Roku. I clicked on this playlist called “Pop Hits” and now, I have more songs I’m obsessed with. I’ve been listening to these songs on repeat since then.

I thought I’d share them before the radio overplays them and makes me hate them like what they did to “Without Me” by Halsey.

Song 1: “Saturday Nights” by Khalid ft. Kane Brown. First, I love Khalid. Period. “Better,” “Ocean,” “Eastside,” and just everything by Khalid. There is something about his voice that so soothing and beautiful. You can hear his passion.

This song is about him loving a girl who has issues with her family and telling her that she has him.

My Favorite Lyrics:

“I guess there’s certain dreams that you gotta keep
‘Cause they only know what you let ’em see.”

Song 2: “Think About Us” by Little Mix ft. Ty Dolla $ign. I didn’t think I would like Little Mix since I like Fifth Harmony, but honestly, I like Little Mix better than Fifth Harmony. (Though I love Camila Cabello.) This song is somehow a pop song but when you listen to the lyrics, it’s a rather deep song too. (Plus they are kind of hot in the video.)

This song is about an ex and wondering, well, do you think about us? Do you think about what we were before? At all?

My Favorite Lyrics:

“I’ve, I’ve been thinkin’ ’bout us, yeah (Yeah-yeah)
All the cities we met up in (Ooh yeah)
Situations that we been through (Na na-na na-na)
Have you been thinkin’ ’bout me, too?
I’ve had some things on my mind I wanna tell you (Tonight)
Can we spend some time, I’ll clear the schedule for you (For you)”

Song 3: “Last Hurrah” by Bebe Rexha. This song is such an end of the year song. It really should’ve came out before 2019 dropped. It’s one of those songs you play at a New Year’s Eve party while everyone is drinking and dancing to this song.

Basically, Bebe is saying “I’m done with all this bullshit. I’m starting over.” Sort of like a New Year’s resolution in song version.

My Favorite Lyrics:

“I’m done with the heartache, I’m done with the demons
Can’t wait to be normal, right after this weekend
I’m done with the drama, I’m fixing my karma
One more night up your nirvana”

Song 4: “11 Minutes” by YUNGBLUD ft. Halsey and Travis Barker. First, the video to this is depressing as hell. Seriously, it made me tear up and it’s a music video. If you haven’t watched the video, DO IT. It’s amazing.

This song is really open to interpretation. The video it’s about a boy who is late to something and then his girl gets in a car accident. Either way, I love this song.

My Favorite Lyrics:

“Tell me what you need, I can make you more than what you are
Come and lay the roses on the floor, every single Sunday, don’t get bored
I just want to freeze, I can give you more than what you are
Now I see you standing all alone, I never thought the world would turn to stone.”

Song 5: “Pretend” by CNCO. Who knew that boy bands were making a comeback? They are pretty. They can sing well and dance well. What else do I need? Also, not a bad song either.

My Favorite Lyrics:

“I only love you in the middle of the night
That’s when you’re on my mind
Every time I get the feeling I can’t fight
And I know it just ain’t right”

Bonus Song: “Geronimo” by Sheppard. I can finally listen to it again after the radio killed it. I haven’t listened to it in like 3 years because the radio overplayed it SO MUCH. But it’s such a peppy song. I thought it suited today.

Hope you enjoy my music! Check out my other blogs called “Songs I Am Currently Obsessed With”, “Spotify Shuffle Adventures” and “Spotify Shuffle Adventures 2” to check out more of my musical tastes!

Songs I Am Currently Obsessed With

These are songs that I am currently obsessed with – for different reasons that I will explain.

Why am I obsessed with this song? The emotion in it is amazing. I love Jacoby Shaddix and I love Maria Brink. I have listened to Papa Roach for years, and now thanks to this song, I’ve been listening to In This Moment (Maria Brink’s band). The emotion between them and the lyrics is just incredible. This song is about a relationship that is going through a rough patch, but no matter what they still love each other. And like gravity, they’ll come back down. Come back together. Like most of Papa Roach’s song, this song is relatable.

One of my favorites parts is when Jacoby is singing:

” ‘ Get the hell away!”
You’re not a husband, not a father, just a pig
And you can never change all the things that you did!’ “

And Maria Brink is on the phone saying the words with him. It’s a beautiful line.

Other songs of Papa Roach I like are “Falling Apart,” “No Matter What” and “American Dreams.” Check them out!

I found Firefight while on browsing a playlist on Spotify. Since then I have played this song. A lot. Can you blame me? I like her voice. I like the beat. I like the lyrics.

Lyrics are what really attract me to songs most of the time. If I’m more in a dance mood, then yeah, it’s a beat. But I listen to music for the meaning of the song.

For this song, she’s asking for help. For someone, whether a friend or a lover, to ‘stay close.’ To stay.

My favorite lyrics:

“Precious denial,
A stone to break my back.
The chains I carry won’t cut me any slack.
Imprisoned by fear,
No room for my heart
My only hope,
Only you can heal the scar.”

“Hanging on a by Thread” by The Letter Black is another song I found via a playlist. In fact, I clicked on “Song Radio” for the Fireflight song and this song popped on that list. I fell in love and have been playing it ever since.

The Letter Black is like a mix of Flyleaf and Halestorm. This song is similar to “Stay Close.” Another song about asking for help, saying ‘hey, save me from me because I’m fucked up.’ I like this song so much that it’s the title for a Batman fanfiction that I am working on. (Yes, I write fanfiction. In another post I’ll tell all the ones I’m working on.)

My favorite lyrics:

“Save me from losing myself
I’m hanging on by a thread
Can you see who I am
Underneath my scars
I’m afraid to fall
So I’m holding on to you
No I won’t let go
I’m hanging on by a thread.”

Now to completely shift gears and onto my next song. Seriously. About to go from alternative rock to soft pop.

This song. God. Do I relate to this song. Every time I hear this song, it makes me tear up, which is strange since not a lot of songs do that. But “Consequences” by Camila Cabello, makes me feel so hard. I can’t listen to it repeatedly otherwise I feel like I need to cry and need a hug from my aunt.

I think we all can relate to this song. Who hasn’t fallen in love with someone and it was a rush. God, it was amazing. And then when it was over, you realized that it wasn’t good. It wasn’t amazing. It fucking sucked. It hurt. And while you want to regret it – and hell, you do – you also know you’ve learned from it. This song reminds me of Morgan. (If you don’t know that story then you won’t get it. But if you do know the story, you’ll get it.) And it hurts. But I still listen to this song.

My favorite lyrics:

“Loving you was dumb, dark and cheap
Loving you still takes shots at me
Found loving you was sunshine, but then it poured
And I lost so much more than my senses
‘Cause loving you had consequences.”

This song. Oh lord. I have listened to this song on repeat at least 10 times. Probably even more than that.

This song. Out of all the songs, even though the music seems sad, the lyrics are almost hopeful. This song is about being in love with someone and it’s like, well “fire on fire.” It’s about being with someone and you just click with them. It makes sense. And it’s amazing and incredible and terrifying all at once. It’s like a wildfire raging out of control until the firefighters come and then it’s all well.

This song makes me long for that kind of love. I like that instead of comparing it to fire and water, the song is like no, it’s fire on fire. It shouldn’t work, but hell, it does. And that’s okay. It’s about not letting people tell you it’s wrong. It’s a hell of a contrast to “Consquences.”

My favorite lyrics:

“Fire on fire, we’re normally killers
But this much desire, together, we’re winners
They say that we’re out of control and some say we’re sinners
But don’t let them ruin our beautiful rhythms.”

First, the video to this song is a bit trippy. Seriously, watch it. Second, the video suits the song quite well. I can’t remember how I found this song. I think I was on YouTube and it did the whole autoplay thing and this song came on.

This song is so real. Broken people find broken people. The lyrics are sad but the beat is almost peppy? It’s a contradiction. That’s why I like it. It doesn’t match, but that’s okay.

When it comes to relationships, I always say that in order to love someone, you have to love yourself first. With this song, it’s saying “Hey, you’re broken. And I’m broken. But that’s okay.” It’s a different perspective. That maybe broken can fix broken.

My favorite lyrics:

“Life is not a love song that we like
We’re all broken pieces floating by
Life is not a love song, we can try
To fix our broken pieces one at a time.”

And that’s it for today!

Bonus song because the video cracks me up.

Spotify Shuffle Adventures

I listen to a variety of music. I can go from Carrie Underwood to 2Pac to Phil Collins to Panic at the Disco! I listen to EVERYTHING. I wanted to share a shuffle that happened a few weeks ago. I might do this every weel. Sometimes Spotify has the best shuffles but also the weirdest. Then sometimes it plays the same artist for three consecutive songs.

Enjoy! And maybe listen to the songs on here!

Playlist 1 (10/15/18 to 10/21/18)

These are the songs that I played the most from October 15th to October 21st. I hope you enjoy them!

“Always Remember Us This Way” by Lady Gaga. This song is from A Star is Born. I need to watch the movie. The soundtrack is amazing! Another good one is “Shallow” by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper.

Favorite lyrics: “Lovers in the night
Poets trying to write
We don’t know how to rhyme
But, damn, we try.”

“She Sets the City on Fire” by Gavin DeGraw. This is such a beautiful love song. The video is awesome as well. It shows a really smart girl who comes up with this idea.

Favorite lyrics: “But I don’t know if I’m chasing ghosts
Put my hand in the flame of a flickering lighter
Again and again, I was lucky just to find her.”

“Lie” by NF. I love NF. “Let You Down” is another great one of theirs. We always have songs about girls talking about guys that are jerks. Well this song is about a guy who likes this girl but this girl doesn’t want anything to do with. Only when she wants something.

Favorite lyrics: “You say you want a man that keeps it real
Then why you mad when I get real with you?”

“I Wish I Was the Moon” by Neko Case. This song is actually from True Blood. It plays in one of my favorite scenes. Sookie and Eric are reunited and then they have sex in the moonlight in a the woods. It’s beautiful.

Favorite lyrics: “How will you know
If you found me at last
Cause I’ll be the one
Be the one, be the one
With my heart in my lap”

“Body” by Loud Luxury ft. brando. This song has a great beat and the video is quirky. It’s a let’s get moving and keep moving type of song.

Favorite lyrics: “But when I lean for the kiss
You said I’ll probably send you some pics
And I’m like”

And lastly, “This Feeling” by The Chainsmokers ft. Kelsea Ballarini. This another upbeat song but the meaning is deep.

Favorite lyrics: “They tell me think with my head, not that thing in my chest
They got their hands at my neck this time
But you’re the one that I want, if that’s really so wrong
Then they don’t know what this feeling is like”
