Prompt 5: Cell Phone

Prompt Five: Name one thing you wish your cell phone did for you that it currently does not.

Cell phones do, well, nearly everything really. They can order you food, a car. You can get on the Internet and scroll through Facebook, Twitter. You can buy things online on your cell phone. Send an email all from that little rectangular device that is more or less glued to your hand. You never set it down. Or you might to go pee. Who knows? Or you could bring it with you to the bathroom. Hell, what can’t a cell phone do? That’s the real question. People spend hours on their phone. 24/7. 365 days a year. So what I wish a cell phone could do is this:

I wish a cell phone could tell you to get off of it.

I wish it could turn itself off and realize that hey, Susan has been on her phone scrolling through Facebook all day. I wish a cell phone could go “Oh, Okay. That’s enough, Susan. It’s time to like go outside or something and not be on me. Sound good, yeah? See you in a few hours.” I wish a cell phone could tell you to go enjoy the sun or go to the beach and get dirty. Get off of me and away from the hate-filled Internet and trolls on social media that want to purposefully ruin your day. Just enjoy breathing. Be in the moment. Talk to each other face-to-face rather than send a text message to your roommate who is in the same room as you.
