A friend asked me why I wanted to make movies. I explained to him that movies, and books, were always there for me. How I wanted to direct or write something that would help someone else.
What we watch and read shape us. We learn from it. I know I’ve learned from what I’ve watched and read.
From Harry Potter, I learned that sometimes you have to save yourself.
One of my favorite scenes is in Prisoner of Azkaban. There’s hundreds of Dementors around Sirius and Harry, and Harry thinks that it’s his father who saves him. But really, it’s him. Harry saves himself. It’s beautiful.
Big Fish is a movie that I used to watch with my grandpa. If you haven’t seen it, you should. It’s about living life to it’s fullest.
So yes I love movies and books. I wish I read as much as I used too (something I will be working on). There are movies I watch over and over again like. Just like there are books I read over again.
Because I want to make a difference. I want a little girl or a little boy to read my book and connect to the character and realize that they are not alone. I want them to watch a movie directed by me and for them to believe they can do anything. Sometimes you can make a difference even if it’s little. It sounds silly but I want to make a difference. Even if I change only one person’s life, that’s enough for me.
I think in a way we all want to save someone’s life.
